It was so tremendous, so in-demand, so a bunch-of-other-stuff-for- which-no-words-exist-to-describe it, that we had to bring you more of our videocast from the benefit show for Picnic of PPT, who lost everything in a recent fire. The Gemini Disco Soul Party keeps the visuals going. Check out Part 2 hurr: QuickDFW.com/ picnic2. (Watch Part 1 at QuickDFW.com/picnic.

The Sure Shot

We'll be back in the PodQast world next week as we grabbed some audio from a conversation with the great Waajeed from the Platinum Pied Pipers. More on him in a minute, aiight?

Great. Now let's break up into individual discussion groups and dissect what we've learned.

The funniest word in sports is when coaches or broadcasters speak on "spurtability." Challenge that notion here: skin@quickdfw.com.

JUST SOME MEN THAT'S ON THE MIC

Having Slick Rick roll into town tonight at Deep Ellum Live is pretty much a no-brainer event. If you were listening to hip-hop before MTV turned into a 24-hour reality show on the lifestyles of the vacuous and insipid (I got mad thesaurus, yo!), then you know the deal. But we were really jacked when we saw who was puttin' on the show and also on the bill.

It's Dallas' own MYK, who has been performing around Texas for years as a part of DDT, the Burn Unit and, most prominently, his Iphlomatix crew. His Fundamental 1s promotion company is behind the weekend double dip in both the Dub and in Austin.

MYK's latest alter ego is Jesus Chronic, and he's wearing that guise on his new CD, The High Life, set for release in the spring. MYK is most known for complex concepts with an amazing rhythmic command that allows him to bounce all around the beat while always landing right back in the pocket. He's often labeled an "underground" rapper, but that's not an accurate assessment. He touches on different styles without ever sounding overly familiar.

MYK a.k.a. Jesus Chronic
He's definitely one of our favorite MCs. Slick Rick was enough to seal the deal for us. Having MYK/Jesus Chronic on the bill makes it an event to savor.

BRINGING THAT DETROIT SOUL TO DALLAS

Tomorrow night is a big deal for the soul heads. Raheem DeVaughn (right) and San Antonio's Mojoe plan on filling the Gypsy Tea Room with good vibes. After that, the boogie spot is Zubar, where Waajeed is scheduled to shut it down.

Waajeed is one of our favorite producers working in the electric soul/hip-hop continuum. Since being one of the founding members of Detroit's storied Slum Village, he's gone on to push the sound most commonly associated with the great Dilla (R.I.P.). His Platinum Pied Pipers project released the Triple P CD last year, and we absolutely wore that joint out.

He's also a great DJ who brings a little bit of everything to the table. We caught him at the NorthPark Adidas party a few months back, and the dude's set was special. That was the same night we learned that free drinks often lead to enormous purchases of fresh gear.

But we digress. Mama Sure Shot has secured a sitter for Baby Sure Shot, so we can all get down.
