There's a new group trying to figure out ways to make Deep Ellum a safer and more attractive local arts destination. It's called Save the Scene (how dramatic!) and organizers say that the meetings have been drawing bigger groups every week. Check out myspace.com/ savethescenenow to see a schedule and more info. Warning: These gatherings aren't intended as gripefests, so if positivity makes you cringe, stick to the blogosphere, 'kay?
Had a little chat with Ryan Hamilton, one half of pop duo Smile Smile. He and partner-in-song Jencey Hirunrusme are busier than a one-arm paper hanger these days. The new video for "Sad Song" is done, and an edited version of the tune is being sent to radio stations all over tarnation. The best news? There's a full-length album all but finished, and Hamilton says the label-shopping has begun. In the meantime, watch that video and hear a dyno-mite Foo Fighters cover at myspace.com/smilesmilemusic.
So sue me, podcast listeners
Yeah, yeah, I took a week off from the Ear Candy podcast last week, but Cindy Chaffin did a good job without me. Almost too good. Hmm. Anyway, I'm back this week as we sit down with Kristy Kruger, who's been commuting between Dallas and Los Angeles. Don't ask, just listen tomorrow: QuickDFW.com/podqast.
Your weekend, partially planned
There's too much going on tomorrow to worry about the rest of the weekend. Sorta is playing host to a little art exhibit at Art Prostitute. On display will be pieces inspired by the band's new album, Strange and Sad But True. After the show it's the after party (yo) at All Good Cafe. And then there's the Pegasus Now release shindigs. And the Granada anniversary bash. How I'll make all of these events remains a mystery, so e-mail me with those cloning machine blueprints, pronto.
Send news and info on your local band to hhauk@quickdfw.com.
