The 28 area shops on the list will affect coffee drinkers from Fort Worth to Plano.
At least three stores in neighborhoods and suburbs south of downtown Dallas will close.
On average, each store employs about 20 full and part-time workers.
Starbucks will try to place many of the workers at nearby outlets, a spokeswoman said, and the others will be eligible for a severance package. She declined to give details of the package.
Joshua Boulten, a shift leader at a Starbucks on Greenville Avenue, said he's already made plans to leave the company for an independent coffee shop nearby. Some of his 15 co-workers are hoping to transfer to another Starbucks, he said.
Mr. Boulten gave Starbucks high marks for sharing information with the staff, adding: "What they're doing is better than just telling people, 'In three to nine months, you're gone.' "
Employees will not be given an exact date until 30 days before the doors shut, Mr. Boulten said.
