A resident of the Claridge Pointe Apartments in northeast Dallas looks over the aftermath of a fire that started early Friday morning in a third-story unit and spread to other apartments.
The fire damaged units on the second and third floor of the Claridge Pointe Apartments in the 8300 block of Park Lane just east of Central Expressway.
The fire was reported at about 1:30 a.m., said Dallas Fire-Rescue spokeswoman Sherrie Lopez.
"I could see the smoke and smell it," said Juana Lazaro, who saw smoke outside her window. "Someone got up and called 911."
Shattered glass from windows and ash covered the ground and walkways near the apartments this morning. A few mattresses, appliances and personal belongings were among the rubble. Police tape sectioned off the damaged area.
