Man steals limo

from storage unit

Dallas police are looking for a thief of a $57,000 stretch limousine.

Henry Vassei, owner of Elegant Limousine, said Monday he is baffled after learning that someone broke through the metal fence at Security Self Storage in the 3300 block of Forest Lane around 6 a.m. Sunday, cut the padlock on his storage unit and drove off in the luxury limo.

According to police, the keys were inside the vehicle.

Vassei said he kept the limo in a storage unit to keep it safe and protect it from sun damage.

He said whoever stole his limo seemed to know exactly where to go. Surveillance video shows a man getting in and out of the unit in four or five minutes, he said.

Mike Palmer, who works for the storage facility's management company, said the company is investigating and he could not provide further comment.

One Dallas firefighter suffered minor injuries battling a three-alarm fire at an apartment complex that displaced residents in eight units Monday night, officials said.

Dallas Fire-Rescue was called to the apartment complex in the 10000 block of Royal Lane, near Interstate 635, about 5:50 p.m. Firefighters with 15 engines had the blaze under control in a short amount of time, said Ernest Gurulé, a Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman.

The injured firefighter was treated at the scene, Gurulé said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation and the Red Cross was assisting the displaced residents.

NORTH DALLAS

Man suspected of

robbing bank twice

Authorities are trying to identify a man suspected of robbing a North Dallas bank inside a grocery store twice in the past few days.

About 1:35 p.m. Monday, the man entered a Tom Thumb grocery store in the 11900 block of Preston Road, near Forest Lane. He approached the Wells Fargo Bank inside and demanded cash from a teller, who gave him an undetermined amount of money, police said.

The man was caught on surveillance images and is described as black, about 53 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall and between 160 and 180 pounds. In Monday's robbery, he was wearing a green-and-blue heavy jacket with black sleeves and the hood pulled up and drawn tightly over his head. He was also wearing small, prescription glasses.

Police believe the same man was caught on surveillance video committing a robbery Friday at the same bank. In that crime, the man was wearing a blue polo shirt, a blue Texas Rangers baseball cap and large-framed prescription glasses.

Anyone with information can contact the Dallas office of the FBI at 972-559-5000 or the Dallas police robbery unit at 214-671-3584.
