Wii to get new sports game

12:00 AM CDT on Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Hudson Entertainment may have the next Wii Sports on its hands. I recently tested a preview of Hudson's upcoming Deca Sports for the Wii, and the game could well be a smash hit. The game includes 10 sports challenges, and I was able to test four: badminton, beach volleyball, dirt-bike racing and figure skating.

Badminton and figure skating were my two favorite sports. Badminton plays like the tennis game in Wii Sports, but with a maximum of two players instead of four. Sashaying across a skating rink doesn't seem like it should be a knockout game, but figure skating is pretty enjoyable. Timing and coordination are key.

Bottom line: I couldn't try any of the other six sports that will be included in the final game (including archery, go-kart racing and curling), but Deca Sports' low price and large assortment of fun events perfect for parties and family gatherings could make this the sleeper hit of the year.
