For the first time in nearly two weeks, the Texas Rangers were sloppy in a 12-6 loss to Oakland. While the Rangers won the three-game series (their fifth consecutive series win), they saw their five-game winning streak end.

Texas Rangers president Nolan Ryan and general manager Jon Daniels say they hope speculation about manager Ron Washington's job status will cease. There is one easy way for Rangers management to take care of that, writes DMN columnist Tim Cowlishaw. Either – or both of them – could come out and say Washington has the job for the rest of 2008. Neither man has said that.

The bullpen's scoreless streak is over. So is the entire pitching staff's. But the one streak that really matters – the winning streak – remains intact for the Texas Rangers. On a night when starter Kevin Millwood's groin tightened up in the first inning, the bullpen gave the Rangers 8⅓  solid innings in a 6-4 win over Oakland that extended their winning streak to a season-high five games.

The Texas Rangers' pitching staff's streak stands at 31 scoreless innings and counting after the club notched its third consecutive shutout Friday, a 4-0 win over Oakland. The Rangers have won four straight and 10 of their last 14 games.

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington's job status has been in limbo since the Rangers lost 12 of 14 games and fell to 7-16 on April 24 after being swept at Detroit. But Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said the topic wouldn't be revisited until the All-Star break – at the earliest.

When Ramon Vazquez is in the Texas Rangers' lineup, they are a winning team. On Saturday, the Rangers won their fourth consecutive game, beating Oakland, 6-3, to tie Seattle for third place in the AL West. Vazquez has started three of them.

Errors once again played a key role in a Texas Rangers game. In a 4-3 win over Oakland on Friday night, the Athletics made four of them, and the Rangers actually took advantage to win their third consecutive game.
