Slight delay on Dallas Mavericks' new coaching staff

Dallas Mavericks, Carlisle agree to 4-year deal, sources say
 Getty Images Rick Carlisle led Detroit and Indiana to the Eastern Conference finals in previous coaching stops. The Mavericks finally got their man. Rick Carlisle reached an agreement in principle Friday night on a four-year contract to become the ninth Mavericks coach in franchise history, sources from both sides confirmed.

Details hold up Dallas Mavericks' deal with Carlisle

The Dallas Mavericks, Rick Carlisle and his agent were working out details of a contract agreement Thursday night. An expected news conference today may be pushed back to allow for the deal to be completed. But there are no serious snags, meaning Carlisle is on schedule to become the team's new coach.

Carlisle looks like Dallas Mavericks' best option

Any delay by the Dallas Mavericks drains a coaching candidate pool that isn't all that deep, writes NBA columnist David Moore. Dallas Mavericks, Carlisle seem to like potential match
 AP Rick Carlisle has had two previous NBA head coaching jobs - with Detroit and Indiana. The Dallas Mavericks appear to have a crush on Rick Carlisle as their next coach. And the feeling may be mutual. After a couple of meetings, both sides said Saturday that talks are ongoing between the team and the prospective coach, which means negotiations could be under way.

AP Former Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle is believed to be a candidate for the Mavericks' coaching vacancy. Avery Johnson, fired as Dallas Mavericks coach Wednesday, has received numerous phone calls from NBA colleagues, including Golden State's Don Nelson, the former Mavericks coach who ran afoul of owner Mark Cuban after he handed the reins to Johnson in the 2004-05 season. "I just wanted to tell him he's a heck of a coach," Nelson said Friday.
