IRVING – Tuesday is a great day in the NFL, according to Tank Johnson. It's the players' day off.
The Cowboys can afford a day of rest after navigating through three big games in September. Now, they can settle in and make some hay outside of the NFL's primetime spotlight.
The win at Cleveland was big because it came in the season opener. A Monday night win over Philadelphia on ESPN was exciting. But the Cowboys had a short week to prepare for Green Bay, which was broadcast nationally by NBC.
"I wouldn't say our team is tired," Johnson said. "Our team is excited. Most of our games are emotional. Teams give us their best shot. I'm glad how we responded. We didn't come out flat. We came out with the intensity we needed."
The Cowboys take a 3-0 record into a two-game homestand. The next six games are scheduled for either a noon or 3:15 p.m. kickoff.
No blown coverage: Coach Wade Phillips made it clear cornerback Adam Jones was not responsible for the blown coverage that allowed Green Bay's Donald Driver to make a 50-yard catch in the third quarter Sunday.
The Cowboys had two safeties playing deep zone coverage. Phillips said Jones' responsibility was to cover the flat. Driver hesitated in the flat, and Jones released him down the field expecting to get help from the safety. Jones caught up with Driver and made the tackle.
"All I can tell you is anybody that knows anything about Cover 2 knows you don't have to cover a guy 30 yards down the field," Phillips said. "I'll lay that to rest."
Holland ready: The Cowboys traded with Denver on Aug. 28 to get guard Montrae Holland and bolster their offensive line depth. However, Holland was inactive the first two games.
Holland was active against Green Bay because Phillips said he wanted eight offensive linemen. This week, backup Cory Procter will start in place of the injured Kyle Kosier (foot).
"We thought Montrae was ready to play if we needed him," Phillips said.
Owens book signing: Terrell Owens will autograph copies of his new book, T.O.'s Finding Fitness, at 6 p.m. Monday at Wal-Mart, located at 915 E. Randol Mill Road in Arlington.
He also will sign books from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at Barnes & Noble, located across from NorthPark Center at 7700 W. Northwest Highway.
