Annika Sorenstam to retire at end of season
 Getty Images Annika Sorenstam has been the LPGA Tour's player of the year a record eight times. Annika Sorenstam will retire after the season, ending an LPGA Tour career in which she has won 72 tournaments to date and delivered a defining moment when she teed it up against the men on the PGA Tour. Sorenstam, 37, has hinted at retirement the past several seasons, saying she wanted to devote more time to her growing business and to start a family.

Garcia wins The Players Championship in a playoff

Sergio Garcia ended the longest victory drought of his career Sunday by making a clutch par putt to force a playoff and hitting the island green 17th on the first extra hole to defeat Paul Goydos in The Players Championship.

Former SMU golfer Colt Knost won the Fort Smith Classic Sunday, shooting a 5-under 65 to edge Darron Stiles by a stroke.

Goydos leads by one at The Players Championship
 AP Paul Goydos was at 7-under 209 Saturday, the highest score to lead at TPC Sawgrass since 1999. Paul Goydos doesn't have a Q-rating, an endorsement deal or a top-30 finish in the last 16 months. What he does have for the first time in his career is a 54-hole lead – in The Players Championship, no less.

20s are roaring on PGA Tour
 Getty Images Dallas' Anthony Kim, 22, won the Wachovia Championship last week to become the youngest winner since Sergio Garcia in 2002. Youth is being served on the PGA Tour these days, writes Bill Nichols. Players under 30 have won eight of 18 events on the PGA Tour, including five of the last six. There were only seven under-30 winners in 47 events last year.
Dallas Cowboys' Tony Romo falters in U.S. Open qualifying 
Dallas Cowboys quarterback and part-time golfer Tony Romo shot a 5-over 75 at Golf Club of Dallas and failed to qualify for the sectional stage of the U.S. Open.
Nelson's tournament director retires after 27 years
When Janie Henderson took over as tournament director in 1982, the Byron Nelson Classic had zero corporate sponsors, employed three staff members and had raised about $3.8 million for charity over 10 years.

Creamer ends Ochoa's LPGA winning streak
Paula Creamer squandered another late lead but came out with a playoff victory Sunday in the SemGroup Championship, beating Juli Inkster and ending Lorena Ochoa's four-tournament winning streak on the LPGA Tour.
Dallas resident Kim wins at Wachovia Championship
 AP With Sunday's win, Dallas resident Anthony Kim is the youngest winner on the PGA Tour in six years. Knee surgery prevented Tiger Woods from attempting to defend his Wachovia Championship title. Former University of Oklahoma golfer Anthony Kim didn't disappoint fans at Quail Hollow Club looking for Tiger-like brilliance.

Ochoa in league of her own
 Getty Images Lorena Ochoa will try to tie the LPGA record of five consecutive tournament victories at this week's SemGroup Championship in Tulsa, Okla. Now that Lorena Ochoa has established herself as the best women's golfer, everybody wants to compare her with Annika Sorenstam or Tiger Woods, both of whom - like Ochoa - have won four straight events during their careers. But Ochoa, writes DMN pro golf columnist Bill Nichols, doesn't need others to justify her accomplishments.
