Legendary Camp Karolyi puts stock in bonds

DeSoto senior ready for national Golden Gloves
 WILLIAM DESHAZER / DMN Errol Spence Jr. won in the Texas State Golden Gloves In March, three years after taking up boxing. Errol Spence Jr. remembers when he was 6 and his father would take him to a Pleasant Grove barbershop that charged $5 to watch pay-per-view boxing matches. Now Spence, 18, has the opportunity to fight for national recognition.
Hill wins Bassmaster Elite event

Courtesy Texas A&M Linda Cornelius set a then-world record in the pentathlon's 800-meter run when she qualified for the 1980 Olympic Games. Dynamic girls volleyball duo wins Dallas Open

Home helps in fishing event
A four-angler team led by a pair of local pros proved Sunday that home-court advantage means as much in bass fishing as in basketball. Kelly Jordon and Lance Vick, both of Mineola, Texas, teamed with David Smith of Del City, Okla., and David Walker of Sevierville, Tenn., to win the Toyota Texas Bass Classic on Lake Fork.
